Environment, Health & Safety Manager

To implement and maintain robust EH&S systems and processes with appropriate confidentiality.  The job holder will assist the Management Team with day-to-day health and safety support and advice to employees and other managers. 

 

To ensure that current best practice is followed with regard to environmental and Health & Safety initiatives.


To lead the EH&S management systems and drive for continuous improvements.



Key Accountabilities:


1.     Conduct risk assessments / Job Safety Analysis and implement controls to reduce hazards

2.     Outline safe operational procedures which identify and take account of all relevant hazards

3.     Carry out regular site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented

4.     Implement improvements to working practices that are safe and comply with legislation

5.     Work with the Management Teams to prepare and implement health and safety strategies and developments to internal policy

6.     Carry out in-house training with managers and employees about environment, health and safety topics and risks

7.     Organise, monitor and record EH&S training

8.     Seek and implement environmental initiatives with the aim of reducing waste to landfill, energy reduction and minimising impacts to the environment and natural resources

9.     Seek and implement health and safety initiatives with the aim of reducing injuries and accidents across the business

10.     Keep records of inspection findings and produce reports with recommendations for improvements

11.     Record incidents and accidents, and produce relevant and suitable statistics for managers, on a monthly or quarterly basis as directed, in order to support any monitoring of near miss and incident trends

12.     As part of a team be responsible for the maintenance and development of the ISO 45001 and ISO14001 certification by ensuring the management systems are regularly reviewed and updated as required.  This includes providing assistance to the auditing of the system by external and internal auditors as required

13.    Responsible for ISO 45001/14001 document control and ensure that the latest versions of policies/manuals/Safe working procedures/forms, etc are available on the H&S Intranet site

14.    Providing an EH&S point of contact for the VP Global EH&S, EMEA EH&S Manager and the wider EH&S global teams as well as for authorities and external parties in relation to EHS

15.  Monitoring and processing all incoming claims paperwork and act as first contact between RS Components and claim handler third parties in relation to EHS

16.  Any other duties as required by the DC Manager or the business.

Essential:
  • Around 10 years EH&S experience, with at least 5 years in a logistics or warehousing/distribution environment
  • Sifa in occupations Health and Safety or local equivalent
  • Sifa in Environmental Management or local equivalent
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Microsoft Excel, required for reporting and tracking together with experience of SAP and report writing systems
  • Excellent communication skills, professional report writing, good time management, attention to detail and strong analytical skills are essential
  • Excellent language skills: German, English (business fluent)

Problem Solving

  • The ability to analyse complex facts and figures and to trace precedents and dependents to resolve errors that occur in formulae
  • Assess, collate and measure environment, health and safety performance at local and global level and report finding to the Global EH&S team for communication to the EMT

  • Able to articulate recommendations to management to change procedures or process, in view of increased risks identified

Planning & Organizing

  • Confident and organized in the planning, scheduling and delivery of Environment, Health and Safety training

  • Confident persuading employees and management, and raising awareness of their legal, moral and financial obligations: to ensure a safe and healthy work environment is present at all times

Communication

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate confidently and effectively at all levels with all stakeholders

Desirable

  • Sifa Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or local equivalent
  • Certified Safety Professional.
